In October, I went to my first ever blog event with Black British Bloggers which is a network for black, british, bloggers, vloggers influencers etc. I didn’t know what to expect but I had such a great time and came away feeling so motivated and uplifted!
Firstly, thank you to Black British Bloggers for putting together such an amazing event – #theBloggerClinic. Our first workshop was presented by Jo (@shot_by_jo) a fashion photographer with a lot of experience working with bloggers. We worked on poses, angles and camera work to get the best shots for our blogs and socials. We all took it in turns to play around with her cameras, model and I guess direct our mini shoots. I’m definitely not the most confident in front of a camera but everyone was so lovely, it made it easy to get some really nice candids – which are my favourite type of photos!
We took a little break to network, get to know one another and had some great food provided by Tees Kitchen (@teeskitchenuk) before our second workshop presented by Connie (@theclothesfiles) – a fashion & lifestyle blogger who grew her following to 12k in a matter of months! Connie taught us how to get our instagram’s looking a little more professional, grow our following and produce the right content. She introduced us to the power of hashtags, content schedules and instagram insights.
I think I took away the most information from Connie as growing my instagram following has been my main concern recently as I want to go down the influencer path! Connie gave a real insight into attracting the right audience, engagement and working with brands and companies. I felt so excited to work on everything I’d learnt and since then my followers have really increased and I’m so much happier with my feed! (@elisekirstenspeaks)
We finished off with some flat-lay practice, using products by Bea Skincare (@beaskinclinic) who sponsored the flat-lay competition and Aveeno. It was the first time I’d ever taken flat-lay photos and I clearly got the hang of it because I just found out I won the comp!! Thank you for choosing me, I can’t wait to see my prize!
I’ll be honest, I was quite nervous about going to the event as I generally have anxiety going anywhere for the first time but like I said, I weren’t sure what to expect or who I’d be meeting. I guess it’s more complicated for us introverted bloggers haha but I was lucky enough to go with my bestfriend who blogs too – the black mermaid (@blackmermaidadventures). Having a familiar face really helps when you’re feeling nervous but everyone at the event was so lovely anyway! Overall I had an amazing time, loved meeting and connecting with new faces and learnt so much so thanks once again to Black British Bloggers! Make sure you subscribe to their newsletter!
